Music Director Position - Now Accepting Applicants

St Andrews Presbyterian Church in Pleasant Hill, CA is seeking a part-time Music Director. Schedule includes leading a weekday evening rehearsal, Sunday Worship Services at 9:00 am and 10:30 am and occasional special services and planning. Time commitment is around 10 to 15 hours/week at $16,000 a year.

The music director is expected to select music and direct singers and band in our Contemporary service and select music and direct the Traditional service choir. The director will also coordinate the other hand-bell and voice choirs (each have volunteer directors): children's bell choir, teen bell choir, adult bell choir, children and teen voice choir and an additional small adult choir.

St. Andrew's is also blessed with many children, teens and adults who play a variety of instruments. The Music Director will be expected to schedule instrumentalists for solos and accompaniment for choirs. The music director will be expected to meet with clergy and lay people for planning -average one meeting per month and provide leadership to nurture and grow the music ministries.

The Ideal Applicant has:

  • A growing relationship with Jesus Christ
  • A familiarity with Reformed and Presbyterian Church traditions and theology
  • A calling for music ministry
  • Prior experience in Church music ministry
  • Ability to communicate with Church staff and other music ministry participants in an effective and timely manner
  • Ability to plan in advance and coordinate with existing church calendar
  • A college education, preferably in the musical arts
  • Extensive knowledge of both contemporary and traditional styles of music
  • Desire to help current musical groups to grow in their musical ability
  • Ability to attract additional singers to song ministry

  • Praise Band Our praise band plays dynamic contemporary music at our 9 am Sunday service and rehearses Thursday evenings at 6:30 - 7:30 pm.
  • Celebration Choir The Celebration Choir provides praise music leadership during the 9 am Sunday service and rehearses with the Praise Band Thursday evenings at 7:00 - 7:30 pm.
  • Chancel Choir Chancel Choir sings traditional choral anthems and response music at the 10:30 am Sunday service and rehearses Thursday, 7:30 - 8:30 pm.
